"No! Do you know what people say about you behind your back? Hmm? They say you're a homeschooled jungle freak that's a less hott version of me! Yea, so you can take that fake apology and shove it up your hairy c...!"-Mean Girls
Caty is one of us many girls who try to fit into the, so called, girl world, which is not always the best thing. Being a girl is hard , and the pressures of today's society will sometimes make you do anything to fit in. Like Caty, one has seen what the combination of greed, jealousely, and just trying to fit in can do to oneself. There is much in common with Caty, but there are also some things that are different between us, such as, personality traits, the way she handles her friends, and our life lessons of girl world.
In the beginning Caty is a cultured, smart, nice, and very beautiful inside and out kind of girl. Then she starts going to public school and turns into something she thinks everyone will like. Caty is one of the smartest girls in her math class, until she meets a boy and dumbs herself down for his attention. She also makes friends and treats everyone with kindness, until she meets the clique. Wearing more provocative clothing and following certain rules of her new found clique Caty becomes the girl everyone loves to hate. Unlike Caty, one was not homeschooled, but when one went from middle school to high school one wanted to change so much. One was always good in school, but one would never dumb oneself down to get attention from any boy. Throughout highschool one did change and so did friends. Joining certain activities made one distant to the people one use to love to hangout with. One always remembered though to treat everyone with respect. Like Caty though, and every other girl, we always get those moments where we will talk bad about someone. Also, one did change the whole wardrobe thinking the more you show the more people will like you, but found out more people just tend to talk meanly about you.

I believe that the character you chose to compare with is a perfect example of many girls I know in school. When boys come into the scene, its like those girls forgot what school and education even existed. It is amazing how much people can change when theyre in school but most times, change can be a choice, it just depends what path the person takes. i like your comparison, makes me rethink about the people in high school. :o)
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how it must feel being a girl growing up in middle to high school and now in college. It helps me to see this perspective from you, a girl, as I can only understand from a limited perspective being a guy. Fitting in is a really hard thing. Being true to yourself can be even harder. I like how you contrasted both you and Caty in the movie. I like how you stick with your morals and respect yourself and don't compromise yourself or your wardrobe just to get someone to like you. Great essay!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't familiar with Caty, but through your essay I began to see what kind of a person she is and how you compare/contrast quite well. I liked your high personal regard and your statements that you would never lower your standards just for attention. I'm glad i'm not a girl!
